Project: IESI – Seneca Meadows Landfill – Dove Wetland Mitigation
Completion Date: Fall/08 – Earthwork; Fall/09 – Trail Construction
This project generally consists of the creation of a 650 acre (+/-) wetland mitigation complex. Zoladz Constructions role in this project was the primary site development contractor. Our work duties included SWPPP installation and maintenance which involved the installation of over 5 miles of silt fence, temporary sediment traps, and level spreaders. This project required moving over 650,000 cy of native clay and topsoil as well 200 acres of temporary vegetative stabilization. The Dove wetland complex also required the installation of approximately 5 miles of gravel hiking / biking trails which are scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2009. Earthwork and other major site development was completed in the fall of 2008. The Dove Wetland Mitigation complex is the largest wetland mitigation project ever approved in New York State and is a landmark achievement.

Project: Noble Environmental Power – Wethersfield Transmission Line R.O.W Establishment.
Completion Date: Spring/09
This project was the establishment of a new permanent Electrical Power Transmission Right of Way which was performed under the strict rules of Public Service Commission Article 7 requirements. Project work included installation of temporary access roads, installation of approximately 10 miles of silt fence and site clearing to provide a 150’ wide, 5 mile long 230kV electrical transmission line. Project challenges included traversing difficult terrain, numerous sensitive wetlands, and well as traversing the breeding grounds of an endangered amphibian species. Through close and careful communication with the NYS Public Service Commission, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets and numerous environmental monitoring firms, this project was completed without a single violation of and rule or permit condition.

Project: Peter Cooper NPL Site – Markhams, New York
Completion Date: Summer 2008
Perform waste fill consolidation and construction of a cover system at the Peter Cooper Markham’s National Priority List Site, a Federal Superfund site located in the Town of South Dayton, NY. More than 20 acres of waste fill will be consolidated into an area of approximately 4.5 acres, covered with 18” of barrier soil, 6” of topsoil and hydro-seeded.
Additional onsite work involves clearing approximately 12 acres of forest and disposing of the grinding debris within the consolidation zone; installation of (5) gas venting wells.

This project included the construction of a 9.6 acre double composite landfill liner system with a pore water drainage layer. Work included excavating and stockpiling app. 100,000cy of sub-grade material; placing over 35,600cy of low permeability soil liner material; placing app. 17,800cy of structural fill; 42,200 ton of select fill; 14,400cy of tire chips; building a new landfill access road with geo-textiles, medium and light stone fill and surface water drainage system. Additionally, a leachate management system consisting of (1) transfer manhole with app. 3,200lf of primary/secondary leachate collection lines was installed.

This project included the construction of a 10 acre soil and Geosynthetic Landfill cap system. Work included excavating and placing over 60,000cy of low permeability soil material, and building a new landfill access road, medium and light stone fill, and road geotextiles.
